Paul Mutty, senior vice president and deputy general counsel, has nearly 20 years of experience with Starbucks Law & Corporate Affairs. He has most recently served as the lead lawyer for Siren Retail, and manages the legal teams that support our EMEA region, Channel Development, and L&CA’s business operations. During his career, Paul has also managed the global commercial, litigation, regulatory, technology, real estate and licensing legal teams, and served as interim general counsel from August 2017 through April 2018.
Paul spent a number of years helping with the development of Starbucks expansion into markets in Asia, South America, Europe and the Middle East. Since last year, while Starbucks general counsel Lucy Helm led the Partner Resources Organization in an interim role, Paul has also managed the day to day operations of the department. His experience includes the negotiation and establishment of numerous international joint ventures, complex license arrangements and acquisitions, and consulting on a variety of commercial matters. Paul currently serves as the vice chair of the Board of Governors of Antioch University, a national nonprofit university with campuses in New Hampshire, Ohio, California and Washington state.
Prior to joining Starbucks, Paul was Executive Vice President and General Counsel for SP Investments, Inc., a private investment company, and was a partner in the law firm of Riddell Williams
Paul holds a law degree from Tulane University Law School and a B.A. from the University of Rhode Island. He lives in Seattle with his wife, Lisa, and enjoys spending time with their twenty-something son and daughter, who both live in Seattle. He is a Starbucks Coffee Master and his favorite Starbucks beverage is a tall Cold Brew.
