Brady Brewer is chief operating officer for Starbucks Japan, one of Starbucks largest markets and the first opened outside of North America in 1996. In this role, Brady leads store operations for the more than 30,000 Starbucks partners who wear the green apron, as well as brand and marketing strategy, product innovation and digital experiences in one of the company’s most innovative and dynamic markets.
Most recently, Brady served as senior vice president, Marketing, Category and Brand Management for the company’s China and Asia Pacific region. Based in Hong Kong, Brady led brand, marketing, product and digital innovation for Starbucks in its fastest growing region.
From Shanghai to Seoul, Mumbai to Melbourne, Tokyo to Thailand and everywhere in between, Brady has had the responsibility and thrill of introducing tens of millions of new customers to the extraordinary experience and values of Starbucks Coffee Company.
A native of Seattle, Brady relocated with his family to Hong Kong in July 2012 and Tokyo in 2016. The moves were preceded by more than a decade of key Starbucks leadership roles that have helped define the modern Starbucks Experience, elevate the brand and drive rapid sales growth.
While serving as vice president, Global Starbucks Card and Loyalty, he was responsible for building customer loyalty through the Starbucks Rewards program and accelerating the company’s multi-billion dollar global Starbucks Card business. He and his team first launched the innovative Starbucks Mobile App that enabled customers to pay for their Starbucks transactions using their mobile phone – a breakthrough in the retail industry.
Brady also served as vice president, U.S. Marketing, where he honed the company’s go-to-market model, led the development of many innovative national marketing campaigns and contributed to the company’s successful transformation.
Prior to Starbucks, Brady held marketing and product management roles with technology companies, including Avenue A/Aquantive (now Microsoft), Visio Corporation (now Microsoft) and Microsoft’s European Operations Center in Dublin, Ireland. Brady has a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Washington.
Brady is a certified Starbucks Coffee Master, a distinction that demonstrates his passion for coffee and a duty that has taken him to the remote coffee farms of Costa Rica and Sumatra. This experience left him with a profound appreciation for how the values of Starbucks result in a sustainable future for coffee agriculture and coffee farming communities.
Outside of work, Brady enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors. He has competed as an athlete at a world championship level, including racing in more than 10 Ironman triathlons.
