Kris Engskov

executive vice president and general manager, Business Integration

As executive vice president and general manager, Business Integration, Kris is responsible for leading new and emerging business initiatives and partnerships designed specifically to accelerate enterprise growth.

Most recently, Kris served as executive vice president, president U.S. Retail, where he was responsible for Starbucks retail operations across the United States. His servant leadership in the role was focused on driving operational excellence and elevating the customer and partner experience across over 8,300 company-operated stores across the U.S.  While in this role, Kris led the development and implementation of a new, long-term service model designed to improve capacity and customer experience through the integration of new and existing sales channels.  He also led new technology-driven initiatives to improve store operations and elevate both the partner and customer experience. 

Kris also previously served as president of Global Channel Development, where he led the company’s efforts across three distinct businesses that make up Channel Development including Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Branded Solutions (including licensed stores and foodservice), and Evolution Fresh.

Prior to Kris’ role leading Global Channel Development, he served as president of Starbucks Coffee Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).  From London, he led the care and development of more than 40 markets and 2,500 stores across the region.  While in Europe, he implemented a number of significant changes to promote growth including the introduction of a new franchised store model in the UK, the launch of self-serve and drive-thru stores, and the signing of several new major licensed agreements including with REWE and Groupe Casino. Before leading EMEA, Kris served as managing director of Starbucks UK and Ireland.

Kris joined Starbucks in 2002 and has a strong mix of international and U.S. experience. He previously served as U.S. regional vice president for the Pacific Northwest where he led the day-to-day operations for the region’s 600 stores across Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho – including Starbucks first store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Prior to this role, Kris held several operating roles in Europe, including serving as managing director of Starbucks Coffee Switzerland and Austria, a joint-venture with the Marinopoulos Group BV.

Prior to joining Starbucks, Kris worked for Madrona Venture Group, LLC, a Seattle-based venture capital fund. He spent the majority of his early career in public service.  From 1993 to 2000, Kris served in the White House as Assistant Press Secretary and Personal Aide to President Bill Clinton.  He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a B.A. in Public Administration.

Kris and his wife Kara live in Seattle. Outside of Starbucks, his number-one priority is being a great dad to their two young children.
