senior vice president, U.S. Marketing
Emily Chang is senior vice president, U.S. Marketing. In her previous role as chief marketing officer, Starbucks China, Emily helped define the brand experience for the iconic Shanghai Roastery, completed the commercial integration of our East China business and operationalized the customer digital experience by bringing together digital payments, social gifting, AR, loyalty, and most recently, delivery. Our Chinese partners’ deep respect for coffee and passion for delivering outstanding customer experience fueled in Emily a strong focus on serving our store partners, as well as our valued customers.
Prior to Starbucks, Emily was the Chief Commercial Officer for IHG, Greater China, where she led organizational renewal for the 5,100-person Sales & Marketing team, delivering record market share, and employee and owner satisfaction. Before IHG, Emily built a high-performance marketing organization for Apple Retail in China, introducing the brand to new markets like Hong Kong and China’s lower tier cities. Having started her career with 11 years at Procter & Gamble, Emily thrives on cross-cultural learning experiences, challenging business opportunities, meaningful relationships and a slightly twisted sense of humor.
In 2017, Emily had the life-changing opportunity to visit the Starbucks farming communities in Sumatra, which left her with a profound appreciation of how the company truly invests in our partners all the way from “bean to cup.”
In her free time, Emily loves to write, and challenges herself to learn a new “big thing” every year. She and her husband of 18 years share a passion for investing in underprivileged children, and have brought 16 kids into their home through the course of their marriage. Her 10-year-old daughter is a vocal advocate for animal rescue, volunteering her time and all the proceeds from her flourishing slime business.
Emily holds an MBA from the Simon School of Business, and undergraduate degrees in Biology and Biomedical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
Emily loves the Starbucks Reserve Pantheon Blend, and her favorite Starbucks beverage is the Cold Brew Lemon Sour.
