Starbucks Brings Together 124 Countries for Unprecedented Global Sing-Along
SEATTLE, December 08, 2009 - On December 7th, Starbucks Coffee Company invited the world to connect in an unprecedented event that united individuals, communities, nations and cultures through the universal language of music. Representatives from 124 countries around the world performed the legendary hit “All You Need Is Love” in celebration of Starbucks one year anniversary in partnership with (RED)TM.
 
The live sing-along spanned across multiple countries, languages and time zones, and featured artists playing instruments and singing in styles that are traditional to their homelands. The performances were simultaneously streamed over the Internet to a single location in London, which featured each location’s performance. In the process, Starbucks set a new Guinness World RecordsTM record for “Most Nations in an Online Sing Along.” The event is available for viewing at www.StarbucksLoveProject.com.

Starbucks Holiday Wish: Love Heard around the World
On December 7th, at 1:30pm GMT (8:30am EST), Starbucks Coffee Company will unite artists from around the world for a simultaneous, live performance of the legendary hit “All You Need Is Love” as a single global concert. Inspired by the vision of the Playing for Change Band, this project spans languages, cultures and time zones through the universal language of music, with musicians contributing in individual ways that are customary and unique to their homeland to create a one of a kind rendition of the song.

A first for Starbucks, the event will use state of the art technology to stream the live feed of this performance on www.StarbucksLoveProject.com. Following the sing-along, everyone with access to the site and a video camera will have the opportunity to submit their own version of “All You Need Is Love” for the world to see and hear.
 
To invite the world to the event, Starbucks is collaborating with Facebook to create the largest globally-reaching campaign on the Facebook platform to date.

Starbucks Honored with ‘Most Ethical Company in Europe' Award
VIENNA – 9th  October 2009 – Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) has been voted as the ‘Most Ethical Company’ in the coffee industry in Europe by the coffee research experts Allegra Strategies following nominations by leading industry figures.  Starbucks also won the award for the ‘Most Admired Coffee Chain Brand’ in France. The awards were announced last night at the European Coffee Symposium held in Vienna, Austria.

The nominations were made by more than 300 senior industry peers who took part in the Allegra European Coffee Leader Survey in August and September 2009. Respondents included leading decision makers from across the major branded coffee chains throughout Europe, key suppliers and industry associations.

Starbucks is reinventing the store experience with a new design approach inspired by Starbucks™ Shared Planet™, our ongoing commitment to ethical sourcing, environmental stewardship and community involvement.

We’re working to strengthen our customers’ sense of community and reduce our impact on the planet by locally sourcing materials and incorporating reused and recycled elements where possible. We want each new or renovated Starbucks store to reflect the character of its surrounding neighborhood, allowing customers to feel truly at home when visiting “their” store and giving them opportunities for discovery at our other locations around the world.

We’ve placed plaques throughout our new concept stores to identify and explain specific green design and construction elements. We hope these markers not only inform customers about our environmental efforts, but motivate them to make environmentally responsible choices once they leave our stores.

Starbucks and NS Celebrate the Opening of Starbucks Store in Utrecht Centraal
UTRECHT: August 4, 2009 – Tomorrow, Starbucks Coffee Company (NASDAQ: SBUX) and Servex, a subsidiary of NS, will open the doors of the first Starbucks location at Utrecht Centraal Station. This marks the beginning of Starbucks initial expansion into the Netherlands through major railway stations including Amsterdam Centraal Station later this year.

Starbucks Celebrates Five Years in France with the Debut of a Reinvented Store Experience
PARIS – July 1, 2009 – Starbucks Coffee France SAS today announced the grand opening of its 50th store in France, which coincides with the company’s five year anniversary in the country. Starbucks opened its first store in France at Paris Opera in January 2004, and now operates stores in and around Paris and Lyon. 

“We are extremely pleased that our French customers, who are passionate coffee lovers, have embraced the Starbucks Experience,” said Philippe Sanchez, managing director of Starbucks Coffee France. “We look forward to welcoming customers into our new Disneyland Paris store, which reflects our connection to the local community and our environmental efforts.” Sanchez will be joined at the anniversary celebration by Howard Schultz, Starbucks chairman, president and ceo, and Philippe Gas, president of Euro Disney.

The Disneyland Paris store reflects the rich local culture and takes a playful, storybook approach with educational and large-scale items that encourage parent-child interaction. Built using reused and recycled materials, the store is the company’s first in Europe to be registered for LEED® certification*.

Starbucks Statement re: Taiwan on Starbucks.com
Taiwan was previously labeled “Taiwan, Province of China” on the store locator system on Starbucks.com in deference to International naming conventions. Because Starbucks takes no position on political issues, the system has been adjusted and the store locator is now labeled “Taiwan.”
