About Starbucks Starbucks Coffee U.S.

Starbucks Coffee U.S.

As Starbucks has grown from a single store to having a global presence, we have worked hard to honor the intent of Starbucks Guiding Principle – to contribute positively to our communities – and to operate each store as if it were our only location. Our approach is based on building lasting, personal relationships with our customers and neighbors and staying in touch with the concerns, issues and desires of our local communities and customers.

As we move into new markets all over the world, we continue to build our brand through the delivery of the Starbucks Experience. Our success at every market that we have entered into reiterates our commitment to become a great, enduring company with the most recognized and respected brand in the world, known for inspiring and nurturing the human spirit.

Company-Operated Stores
It all started in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971. From there, we've grown in numbers but maintained our commitment to being the heart of the neighborhoods where we operate. Our stores are customized to provide a unique Starbucks Experience for our customers and to complement the surrounding community.

Licensed Stores
Licensed stores are Starbucks stores that offer great coffee, tea and customers service; however, they are owned and managed by a licensee. Starbucks enters into licensing arrangements to provide the Starbucks Experience in locations including local department stores, hotels and resorts, college and university campuses, hospitals, casinos, airports, grocery stores and other locations.

Urban Coffee Opportunities
Starbucks and Johnson Development Corporation (JDC) formed Urban Coffee Opportunities, LLC (UCO) in February 1998 to enhance the development of Starbucks retail stores in ethnically diverse, urban and suburban neighborhoods across the United States.
